Hall Technique Tutorial

Watch Dr. Jeanette MacLean place a SSC utilizing the non-invasive Hall Technique without hand pieces or air/water syringe. This approach is an effective, evidence based option for caries in the primary dentition that eliminates the need for a high speed hand piece (dental drill) and local anesthetic (shot), and can be done without sedation. The carious lesion is sealed within the crown and a glass ionomer cement, cutting it off from the sugars and acids it would need to progress, and allowing the pulp to lay down a protective layer of reparative dentin. Simple substitutions like using gauze instead of compressed air/water will allow you to place SSCs in vital primary teeth without generating aerosols. Dr. MacLean uses a NuSmile SSC, which is made of surgical grade steel, which flexes at the margins when seated, and resists wear from bruxing.
